State guide

Washington

Washington has the most developed official meth-property framework of the three states here: local health officers declare properties unfit, state law requires certified decontamination contractors, and the Department of Health publishes a current certified-contractor list. I found current local meth-property list pages for Tacoma-Pierce County and King County, but I did not find a current public statewide contaminated-property registry page run by DOH.

Checked against official sources on October 4, 2026. Rules and links change; confirm with the office listed before you act.

Contaminated property list
Washington law says local health officers report contaminated properties to DOH and the department may make a contaminated-properties list available, but I did not find a current public statewide DOH meth-property registry page; local lists are published by some health departments.
Seller and landlord disclosure
For sales of improved residential real property, RCW 64.06.020’s disclosure statement asks whether the property has been used as an illegal drug manufacturing site; I did not find a separate statewide landlord meth-disclosure statute, but law enforcement must notify landlords of drug seizures under RCW 59.18.075/69.41.062.
Cleanup standard
1.5 micrograms per 100 square centimeters of methamphetamine.

What to do next

  1. Call the local health department before entering, renting, or buying a property suspected of prior meth manufacture or heavy meth contamination.
  2. Use only a Washington DOH-certified drug lab cleanup contractor when the local health officer requires certified cleanup.
  3. For Tacoma-Pierce or King County properties, check the local health department meth-property pages in addition to state law and contractor lists.
